Re: How to build awesome props....

here is a video of my prototype working about how it should.
It still needs a little more lifting power, but it has potential.

Re: RO Vests versus shirts

Some folks have an aversion to using "road crew" vests. I'm down for anything that we can wear in FL over our regular gear that doesn't make us die from heat stroke. They also need to fit numerous body types. I agree, It's hard enough to be out in the sun for your run, but to do it 4 or more times ...

Re: RO Vests versus shirts

No sense in wearing a vest, unless it's kevlar IMO. What is actually gained by wearing a non-kevlar vest? You are adding weight, possibly restricting movement, and adding insulation (VERY bad in Florida most of the time)......Visibility and identification is about the only value added by a vest. Why...

Re: How to build awesome props....

The subaru can handle 10' pieces, but that's it. I like the overhead cable for longer runs. Even multiple 10' pipes will get difficult to work with and store. plus if they get damaged or cross-threaded that can be a problem. There used to a be a sprinkler that looked like a farm tractor that was ava...

Re: How to build awesome props....

10 feet is the max size that the pvc comes in. they could be coupled but it would have to be a custom internal coupler since the slider slides on the outside of it. And it may sag too much. Could add a vertical support and then cut a slot in the slider to pass over it though. I will get it working i...

Re: How to build awesome props....

should I glue the slider track in, or do you think a 10 foot travel is better (5 foot shown above) ?

Re: How to build awesome props....

here is what I got. The latex tubes are inside the slider tubes, with pulleys up front, and there are 2 of them, so this can have a lot of power, and you could theoretically widen it, and lengthen it by 5 feet. Beyond 10 feet of track and it may sag too much. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JqLUG...

Re: How to build awesome props....

cool,

looks like it uses latex tubing for the power and a wooden frame for the track.

Re: How to build awesome props....

adding curves to the track will get way more complicated...especially for the powersource and track alignment. It can be done, but will get expensive fast. The only way I see this charging target working is thru KISS. Otherwise the cost will go way up....i think Todd was talking about 3 or 4 of thes...

Re: How to build awesome props....

...Kitchen cabinet door magnets make it easy for the target to drop at the end of the run, but hold it firmly while moving. I might be coming down to Fla the first weekend in December and staying near the Malabar shoot. It would be fun to hash out some ideas. Please do explain how the magnets work ...

Re: How to build awesome props....

Went to the hardware store over the weekend. It turns out that 1-1/4" SCH40 PVC slides very nicelly over 1" SCH40. Came home with some PVC, latex tubing, pulleys, and fittings, and I should have a prototype ready to go later this week. The plan is to have a target rotate up, then slide towards you a...
