RO Vests versus shirts

Post by todd » Mon Oct 22, 2012 11:04 am

There are a few choices out there for vests versus shirts. here is one, they also make a 100% mesh one as well. This one is a little busy with all the pockets + reflector tape but they can make them custom with any number of pockets , patches etc... Food for thought.

What about something like this:

Then use a stencil and black paint to put "R.O." on the back.

Some folks have an aversion to using "road crew" vests. I'm down for anything that we can wear in FL over our regular gear that doesn't make us die from heat stroke. They also need to fit numerous body types.

Sorry, but this was the first thing that comes to mind when I see the "range officer" vest. Maybe it's from when the only range nearby was run by Fudds. That's kind of how they all acted.

The T-shirts are better. If you don't want red in the FL heat, maybe do white with a red or black "X" like you sometimes see on the no-shoot targets at he USPSA matches.

hah! nice pic Garrett. While I appreciate your view for me, changing shirts while at KCR or the MI match just isn't something I want to do. I also don't want all my run videos of me wearing an ugly red shirt. Thus the idea of a vest or something to wear over my regular clothes when RO'ing and it can go elsewhere when I'm shooting or walking around.

These aren't so bad and the price is right; from the same website you posted. I could go for one.

On a side note, I was thinking about getting a red stocking cap engraved with the KCR logo for myself since I always get cold at the Creek.

Sorry it's so damn big.

Yeah that's the mesh one I was referring to. They can do custom patches so we could have LINE OFFICER, Scoring , On Deck etc... if we wanted as well as subgun related things like the subgunner logo or just SUBGUN

No sense in wearing a vest, unless it's kevlar IMO.
What is actually gained by wearing a non-kevlar vest? You are adding weight, possibly restricting movement, and adding insulation (VERY bad in Florida most of the time)......Visibility and identification is about the only value added by a vest.

Why not just a hat? Then you get the visibility and identification without the added weight and heat retention of a vest....plus you gain sun protection.

or maybe arm-bands. These would be cheap and easy to identify and would not soak up sweat like a hat or vest.

there are several arm-bands here, but I do not see an RO labeled one:

Here is a company that makes custom armbands.

I agree, It's hard enough to be out in the sun for your run, but to do it 4 or more times at each bay in addition......

I'm all in for armbands. They weigh very little, and are easy to remove, and won't interfere with any gear you may have on your belt.

I don't want to were a vest to RO or shoot. I think hats, armbands/hatbands, or T-shirts are the best ideas.

Nobody is asking you or anyone else to wear anything. This is about me and what I want and a discussion that was held at knob creek. You can keep your shirts and hats. :)

I'm going with the place and type in the first post, for personal reasons and for teaching, is nice to have some things right at hand on one's self.

Yeah, I need counseling, but I don't care.
