Spring 2015 KCR National Subgun Match Results (Unofficial)

Post by Paul Winters » Mon Apr 13, 2015 9:00 am

Hoped, everyone liked it. It was challenging. The Scooby Doo kids definitely got in the way and in the end we did find Scooby. Wasn’t the Mystery Machine van great looking? Tracy Sumner’s daughter Lauren, spent a week painting it for us. I cannot say enough about the support we get from Knob Creek. The weather was really good for the match Setup, not so much). I saw a lot of sun on people at the end of the day. Thanks to Elite Survival Systems for their sponsorship. Every name drawn got a full value certificate or a 20% off coupon for one of the vast selection of subgun soft case. I saw smiles all around and it was great to catch up with friends. Finally, a great big thank you to all the dedicated Range Officers who put in way more than was asked of them. We are already working on the next one. (heh heh heh)

Interesting to see the breakdown.

After all the hate and discontent over mag limits, you get roughly half as many entries in the Unlimited category as any of the limited classes. So did this category become the "warm up" run for the others?

Also interesting to see that roughly half of the Unlimited class was run with a Lage Max-31. I actually would have thought it would be a little higher. Also interesting to see 2 of the top 5 in that category were not shooting a Max-31. So did the M16s and MP5s run multiple beta mags, or did it seem that hosing was not the way to go this time around?

I think this was a 'transitional' match with the adjustment in the rules. At first, I was thinking the no shoots on string 1 were confining, but I think it was also due to the magazine limitation. I watched several shooters shoot 30 rounds and, when the gun stopped firing, they checked their bolt as if they expected more ammo in the magazine. With my 16, I was able to make a lot of double plate picks. Richard did as well. The Unlimited class had several almost clean dumps between the reds. We are all getting used to the mag limitation, I think. I also expect the Unlimited class to grow. It is a chance to run your best gun first before taking another run. I had a fifth string on paper but, with the weather and water, I pulled back. We had the polymer cubes on string 4 and they were too inconsistent on being hit and their movement. Wouldn't use them again, but I am glad we gave them a try. As always, once the first runs is taken, the course is set. The steel table put them at 15 yards and this was a challenge. This did have some challenges with the swingers and the 'thread the needle' tight shots, but the same people were at the top. I consider a subgun course a challenge for competitors to show what they got with the happy switch whatever the situation thrown at them.

Don't know about the 16 or MP5 unlimited runs magazine usage as I didn't observe.

Despite all the bad weather, the sun came out for the match. Congrats to all the winners.

Sorry you missed it and missed not seeing you. Maybe Michigan.
